Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the Supervision of the Department of Industry and Trade concerning Law Number 8 of 1999 Consumer Protection (Study in Supermarkets in Marpoyan Damai Sub-District, Pekanbaru City). This study the author uses the type of quantitative research. The location of this study was conducted at the Pekanbaru City Industry and Trade Office. The sample of this study was the employees of the Pekanbaru City Trade and Industry Office, amounting to 15 people, as many as 15 self-service owners and 15 consumers. The instrument used in the study was a questionnaire which then analyzed the percentage and categorized in the category of implementation, enough to be implemented and not implemented. Based on the results of the study found several phenomena that have occurred in the field, especially in the city of Pekanbaru, there are still many frauds carried out by self-service entrepreneurs, minimarkets and supermarkets. This is very detrimental to the consumer. Law Number 8 of 1999 concerning trade, in its implementation it is necessary to have a related institution to carry out an oversight in accordance with its duties and functions, namely the Trade and Industry Agency. Based on the research questionnaire that researchers have obtained shows that in the supervision of standard setting in general, the overall standard has been implemented, but also not fully implemented because there are still many percentages of people and super markets will lack the supervisory function of the Department of Industry and Trade in Pekanbaru.
