Abstract
oru Panggoaran song is one of the songs from North Sumatera which is still popular nowadays. This song is about a father and his oldest daughter. The songwriter of this song intentionally wants to change people’s perspective, especially Bataknese who generally think that a son is better than a daughter in achieving success. This research is conducted by using critical approach with qualitative descriptive, content quantitative analysis technique and semiotic qualitative analysis. This research is to find denotations, connotations and myths appear from representation of women emancipation in the song by using Roland Barthes semiotic analysis. The technique of collecting data used in this research is by analyzing the lyrics, documentation, and carry out an interview to a Bataknese traditional leader, a career woman and a Bataknese singer who is also a songwriter. The result of this research shows that of six indicators of women emancipation there are only three indicators which can depict the representation of women emancipation in the song: they are freedom of gender equality and education.
