Abstract
Floodplain rice farming is an agricultural activity that plays an important role in meeting food needs and is the main source of income for communities in floodplain areas. This study aims to analyze: (1) the characteristics of farmers, collectors, and the profile of floodplain rice farming, (2) tidal rice farming techniques, including production facilities and infrastructure, cultivation techniques, costs, production, income, and efficiency, and (3) tidal rice marketing, including functions, channels, institutions, mix, costs, margins, trader profits, efficiency, and farmer's share. This study used a survey method with a saturated sampling technique (census), so that the entire population consisting of 40 farmers and 3 collectors in Pematang Sikek Village were used as respondents. This research was conducted for 6 months, starting in October 2025 to March 2026. The data used were primary and secondary data. Data analysis was performed descriptively to describe the characteristics of respondents, farming profiles, cultivation techniques, as well as marketing functions, channels, institutions, and mix. Quantitative analysis was used to calculate costs, production, income, farming efficiency (R/C Ratio), as well as margins, profits, marketing efficiency, and farmer's share. The results showed that (1) tidal rice farmers were predominantly of productive age (average 50.88 years) with long farming experience (average 24.48 years), elementary school education (40%), and 4-5 dependents. There are three collectors, who are of productive age (average 44.67 years) and have 12.33 years of trading experience. The farming profile shows an average land area of 1.24 hectares, with leased land dominating (52.5%). (2) Cultivation techniques are greatly influenced by the tidal system of the Rokan River, which is determined using local wisdom (the lunar calendar) and BMKG predictions, with the use of superior varieties adapted to swampy land such as Ciberang, Inpari 32, and Inpari 42. Average production reached 4.473 kg per farmer with production costs of IDR 17.345.598 per farmer, revenue of IDR 26.236.586 per farmer, income of IDR 8.890.988 per farmer per planting season, and an R/C ratio of 1.52, indicating efficient and profitable farming. (3) Marketing is conducted through a single channel, namely from farmers to village collectors and then to external collectors. The average price at the farmer level is Rp6,171/kg and at the village collector level is Rp6,817/kg, with a marketing margin of Rp633/kg, a net profit for collectors of Rp275/kg, marketing efficiency of 6.70% (very efficient), and a farmer's share of 90.71%, indicating that farmers enjoy most of the selling price of their products.
