Abstract

Plastic bottle waste is an increasing environmental problem due to its non- biodegradable nature, requiring effective processing technology through a shredding process. This study aims to analyze the effect of variations in the number of blades on the size, shape of shredded plastic, and the production capacity of a plastic bottle shredding machine. The research method used was an experimental method with variations of 2, 4, and 6 blades using a vertical shaft chopper-type blade. The tests were conducted using Polypropylene (PP) and Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET) plastics powered by a 3 HP electric motor. The observed parameters included shredding time, production capacity (kg/hour), and the size and shape of the shredded plastic. The results showed that increasing the number of blades reduced shredding time, increased production capacity, and produced smaller and more uniform shredded plastic. The variation with 6 blades provided the most optimal performance, resulting in the highest capacity and the smallest shred size compared to the 2-blade and 4-blade configurations.
