Abstract
Independence is a competency that must be achieved santri existing boarding schools. The independence of santri can be influenced by social interaction to develop self-skill, develop empathy, a sense of solidarity, practice to solve its own problems, and learn to understand and share with others. If a santri does not get an opportunity to interact with others, it will experience obstacles in its development including independence. This study aims to determine the relationship of social interaction with the independence of the boarding school students. The data collection method used self-reliance research scale with 25 items and social interaction scale with 31 items distributed to 74 students of Madrasah Tsanawiyah Pondok Pesantren Al-Ikhwan. The sampling technique used is saturated sampling technique. Data analysis method used is Pearson Product Moment Correlation. Based on the analysis test, it was found that there was a positive correlation between social interaction with independence on santri with correlation coefficient value (r) 0,536 (**) and significance value (p) 0.000 (p <0,05). This suggests that the hypothesis is accepted, meaning that the higher the social interaction the higher the independence of the santri. Conversely, the lower the social interaction, the lower the independence of santri pondok pesantren.
