Abstract

This research was done to investigate The Effect of Using Audio Lingual Method toward Students Pronunciation of Prosodic Features at The Eleventh Grade Students of SMA Negeri 1 Bungaraya Siak. One of methods that can be used in practicing the ability of the pronunciation is Audio Lingual Method. It is a suitable method to help the students in pronunciation. By applying the Audio Lingual Method, the students must do the task and pronounce the stress, intonation and rhythm in better way. The research employed an experimental research design with the one group pre test- post test only in which the researcher designed the lesson plan. The samples of this research were 25 students at the eleventh grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Bungaraya Siak, in the academic year 2015/2016. This research was conducted in six meetings which were one meeting for pre test, four meetings for treatment and one meeting for post test. They were taken during the resarch schedule from 23rd of July up to 13th of august 2016. The finding of the research was there was a significant effect of Audio Lingual Method on students’ Pronunciation of prosodic features. This conclusion is based on the increasing of the mean score of the students’ pronunciation. It was proven from the increasing of the mean score of pre test from 48.52 become 72.24 in post test. The value of sig (2-tailed) was 0.00 and it was lower than significant probabilities 1% (P < 0.01). Furthermore, the result of hypothesis testing revealed that Ha is accepted and Ho is rejected. In other words, there is a significant effect and difference on the students’ pronunciation before and after doing treatment by using the Audio Lingual Method. The researcher investigated that students became more active and interested in learning pronunciation so that their achievements became higher after taught through the Audio Lingual Method.
