Abstract

Herringbone technique is one of technique in learning of reading that can improve the students’ enthusiastic and motivation in reading a text. However, in this research, many students especially the second grade students have problem and difficulty in the comprehending reading text. So, this research was done to find out any whether there is significant effect of Herringbone Technique Toward Students’ Reading Comprehension of Recount Text on the Second Grade Students at SMPN 4 Seberida Indragiri Hulu This research was an experimental research. This research took place at SMPN 4 Seberida. The sample of this research was the second grade students of SMPN 4 Seberida especially at VIII A and VIII C. The total sample of this research was 64 students, consists 32 students of VIII A as control class and 32 students of VIII C as experimental class in pre-test and post-test. The instrument of the research was multiple choice of reading test consist of 20 items. The technique of data analysis which used was t-test from SPSS version 20 program. Based on the result of reading test it showed that the improvement from the score of t-test. The total score of t-obtained was 11,038 was higher than level of significant ttable 5% was 0,355 while at level of significant ttable 1% was 0,456. Based on t-table, 0,355<11,038>0,456. In other word, t-obtained > t-table, it means that the null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted. So, it can be concluded that there was a significant Effect of Herringbone Technique Toward Students Reading Comprehension of Recount Text on the Second Grade at SMPN 4 Seberida Indragiri Hulu. Herringbone technique is one of technique that has a good effect towards students’ reading comprehension.
