Abstract

This research was to find out the students’ Reading Comprehension of announcement text at the Second Year Students at SMPN 34 Pekanbaru. Reading comprehension is the process of constructing meaning by coordinating a number of complex processes that include word reading, word and word knowledge, and fluency. Comprehension involves understanding the vocabulary seeing the relationship among words as concepts, organizing ideas, recognizing the author’s purpose, making judgment, and evaluating. In this research, the researcher used Announcement text as the material of the text. The research was Quantitive research. It had been conducted during the period of October 2017. In this research, the researcher used one class which was the sample of the research. The researcher used test item as the instruments of the research which consisted of 20 multiple choices of announcement text. To analyze the data, the researcher used quantitative data. The result of the test showed that the students’ reading comprehension of announcement text average score in terms of Writer was 83,00 and the category was Very Good. From the data analysis above in table 4.3 shown that the students’ reading comprehension of announcement text in term of Content, the average score was 70,83 and the category was Fair. The students’ reading comprehension of announcement text in term of Time , the average score was 75,00 and the category was Good. The students’ reading comprehension of announcement text in the term of Place, the average score was 75,00 and the category was Good. Finally, the students’ reading comprehension of announcement text in term of Receiver, the average score was 87,50 and the category was Very good. In other word by this research the researcher could conclude that the students’ reading comprehension of announcement text at grade VIII.3 was good.
