Abstract

Interpersonal communication is face-to-face interaction between two people or several people where the sender can deliver the message directly and the recipient can respond directly as well. While understanding is the ability of students to understand after something is known and remembered. Understanding is important aspect that should be owned by students due to without having high and deep understanding that make students feel difficult to answer the questions by teacher. Based on prelimary reseach was done at eleventh year science students of SMA Negeri 2 Torgamba Labuhanbatu found there were some students did not want to ask the teacher about the material which still did not understand, some students did not resspond to the teacher during lesson that can be seen from talking to the other students, some students were sleeping and playing mobile phone. Besides, some students also did not complete both notes and assignment from teacher. One of the efforts to improve students’ understanding of Islamic religion subject was by improving teacher’s interpersonal communication. The formulation of the problem of this reseach was is there any significant inflence of Teacher’s Interpersonal Communication on Students’ Understanding of Islamic Religion Subject at Eleventh Year Students of SMA Negeri 2 Torgamba Labuhanbatu Selatan Regency. Questionnaire and documentation were used in collecting the data. This was correlation reseach which was used simple linear regression analysis. The population were 63 students. The result of the reseach can be seen from simple linear regression that shown from coefficient (R) = 0,622 > 0,05. It means hypothesis was accepted. While coefficient determination (R Square) were 0,387. It means students’ understanding (Y) was inflenced by teacher’s interpersonal communication (X) 38,7%. It means there were low influence because the range of the coefficient interval of 0.20 - 0.399, while others were 100% - 38.7% = 61.3% influenced by other factors.
