Abstract

ABSTRACT Rifna Afriani, 2020. “The Effect of Experiential Learning Approach Toward Students’ Speaking Ability at the Second Grade of SMPN 2 SIAK HULU”. This research aimed to to know the significant effect of Experiential Learning Approach Toward Students’ Speaking Ability. It aims at finding out how applying Experiential Learning Approach can be used to see the significant effect toward speaking ability at SMPN 2 Siak Hulu. The design of this research was an experimental research which kind of research was true experimental research. The variable of this research was two variable: independent variable (x) was to Experiential Learning Approach and dependent variable (y) was speaking ability. There were 6 meetings, following the procedure of pre-test, treatment, and post-test. The total population of this research was 140 students which consisted of six classes such as: VIII 1, VIII 2, VIII 3, VIII 4, VIII 5, and VIII 6. The sample of the research consisted of two classes: VIII 2 as an experimental class taught by using Experiential Learning Approach and VIII 3 as a control class taught by using conventional class. After calculating data the researcher found significant effect of students’ speaking ability which pre-test mean score (55,32) and post-test mean score (67,09). Moreover, the paired sample t-test showed P value =0,000 which is smaller than 0,05. In summary, there was a significant improvement to the students’ speaking ability after being taught using Experiential Learning Approach.
