Abstract
Indonesia is a country of law that upholds the enforcement of justice, including efforts to combat narcotics crimes. The abuse of methamphetamine (methamphetamine) narcotics which is classified as Class I Narcotics is still a serious issue because it threatens the security and future of the nation's generations. In the jurisdiction of the Tapung Hilir Police, despite fluctuations, methamphetamine abuse cases still show significant numbers, with a total of 52 cases handled during the period of 2021 to 2024. This condition shows the need for an in-depth study of the effectiveness of law enforcement carried out by police officers. This research aims to analyse the effectiveness of law enforcement carried out by the Tapung Hilir Police against methamphetamine abuse perpetrators and identify factors that hinder the law enforcement process. The research method used is an empirical (sociological) legal method with the nature of analytical descriptive research. Primary data was obtained through direct interviews with the Head of Criminal Investigation of the Tapung Hilir Police and the perpetrators of narcotics abuse, while secondary data was obtained from relevant documents and laws and regulations. The research results show that law enforcement against methamphetamine abuse in the jurisdiction of the Tapung Hilir Police has been effective. The effectiveness is realised through pre-emtive, preventive, and repressive efforts according to Law Number 35 of 2009 concerning Narcotics. The main obstacle to law enforcement comes from social factors and perpetrators, especially the low public participation in providing information as well as the efforts of perpetrators to hide evidence and move transaction locations. This study recommends increasing synergy between law enforcement officers and the community to reduce the number of narcotics abuse.
