Abstract
Household expenditure encompasses all expenses related to meeting household needs. Broadly, household expenditures are categorized into two groups: food and non-food expenditures. This study aims to analyze: 1) the characteristics of rice farmers in Kampar Regency; 2) the structure of household income and expenditure among rice farmers in Kampar Regency; and 3) the dominant factors affecting the household expenditure of rice farmers in Kampar Regency. The study employed a survey method conducted in Kampar Regency. Sampling was performed across four districts: Kampar Kiri, Kampar, Bangkinang, and Kuok. The research was carried out over six months, from July to December 2025. Data analysis techniques included descriptive statistical analysis and multiple linear regression analysis. The results showed that: (1) rice farmers in Kampar Regency have an average age of 50 years, which falls within the productive age range, an average formal education of 12 years (Senior High School), an average farming experience of 17 years, and an average family size of 3 members; (2) the income structure of rice farming households is derived from rice farming, other agricultural activities, and non-farming income, with the largest contribution coming from other agricultural activities at 26.86%. Household expenditure consists of food and non-food expenses, with food expenditure being the largest component at 55%; and (3) simultaneously, all independent variables significantly influence the household expenditure of rice farmers. Partially, income, family size, savings, and assets have a significant effect on household expenditure. Meanwhile, the wife's level of education does not have a significant influence. The response of household expenditure to changes in income is elastic, whereas the response to family size, savings, and assets is inelastic, indicating that changes in these three variables do not lead to substantial changes in the household expenditure of rice farmers in Kampar Regency.
