Abstract

Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is an important instrument in sustainable development that requires companies not only to focus on profit but also to take social responsibility and be environmentally oriented. In the context of Indonesian law, CSR has become a legal obligation as stipulated in Article 74 of Law Number 40 of 2007 concerning Limited Liability Companies, Government Regulation Number 47 of 2012, and Law Number 32 of 2009 concerning Environmental Protection and Management. One example is the implementation of CSR by PT Bangun Tenera Riau in Pantai Raja Village, Perhentian Raja District, Kampar Regency, through programs such as classroom construction and the provision of incentives for educators. These programs have benefited the community; however, it remains to be examined whether they are in line with the environmentally sustainable principles. Based on the background, the research problem formulation is as follows first, the conformity of CSR implementation by PT Bangun Tenera Riau with the applicable legal regulations. second, the sustainability of the environmental principles in the implementation of the CSR program. The purpose of this study is to analyze the conformity of CSR implementation with the applicable legal regulations and to examine the sustainability of the environmental principles in the company’s CSR program. This research uses an Observational Research method with an empirical legal approach, conducted directly at the research location. Data were collected through interviews with company representatives, local government officials, and community leaders. This approach allows the study to obtain a real picture of CSR practices and the implementation of the environmentally sound principle in Perhentian Raja District, Kampar Regency. The research findings indicate that PT Bangun Tenera Riau has implemented various CSR programs in the fields of education, infrastructure, social affairs, religion, sports, economy, and culture with a structured planning process. However, the CSR programs focused on environmental aspects remain charitable in nature, sporadic, and not yet integrated into sustainable environmental policies. The sustainability of environmentally oriented CSR principles at PT Bangun Tenera Riau faces several obstacles, including the absence of systematic and sustainable planning by the company, limited coordination with local government, weak supervision of CSR reporting, and the ineffective functioning of the Corporate Social Responsibility Forum initiated by the Kampar Regency Government as a coordination platform for the social responsibility of all companies in the region.
