Abstract
The native broiler chicken farming business has significant potential for development due to high market demand, stable selling prices, and strong adaptability, thereby offering promising economic opportunities for farmers. This study aims to analyze: (1) the characteristics of farmers, labor, traders, and the profile of native broiler chicken farming entrepreneurs; (2) the native broiler chicken farming business; and (3) the marketing of native broiler chickens. This research employed a case survey method conducted at Mr. Agussalim’s poultry farm in Kubang Jaya Village, Siak Hulu District, Kampar Regency. The study was carried out from January to June 2025. Data were analyzed using both qualitative and quantitative approaches. The results indicate that the business is managed by a 55-year-old farmer with a master’s degree (S-2), four years of farming experience, and four dependents. The labor employed comes from outside the family and is 44 years old. This enterprise is categorized as a micro-scale business with an initial capital of IDR 7,200,000 and a cage area of 96 m². The farming practices include seed selection, housing management, vitamin supplementation, and disease control. However, there are shortcomings in feed management, as it relies only on ground corn and bran without considering balanced nutrition, as well as a longer harvesting period than the standard. From a financial perspective, the total production cost is IDR 22,516,877 per production cycle, with revenue of IDR 25,603,200 per cycle and a net income of IDR 3,086,323 per cycle. The R/C ratio of 1.14 indicates that the business is profitable and feasible to operate. The marketing system consists of two channels: Channel I through collectors and retailers, and Channel II directly through retailers to consumers. Marketing costs in Channel I amount to IDR 1,214/kg, while in Channel II they are IDR 1,259/kg. The marketing margin in Channel II (IDR 20,000/kg) is higher than in Channel I (IDR 17,000/kg), with greater marketing profits also obtained in Channel II. Both channels are considered efficient, with efficiency values of 2.02% (Channel I) and 1.94% (Channel II). However, the farmer’s share is higher in Channel I at 71.67% compared to 69.23% in Channel II.
