Abstract
This study aims to analyze: (1) farmer characteristics, (2) farm profitability, and (3) factors influencing lowland rice production in Keritang District, Indragiri Hilir Regency. The research was conducted over a six-month period from July to December 2025 and took place in Keritang District, Indragiri Hilir Regency. The study location was selected because the majority of the population in Keritang District relies on lowland rice farming as their main source of income. The sample in this study consisted of all lowland rice farmers in Keritang District, Indragiri Hilir Regency. The research employed a quantitative approach using a survey method. Both primary and secondary data were utilized. The production function applied was the Cobb-Douglas function. Data analysis methods included descriptive statistical analysis and multiple nonlinear regression analysis. The results showed that: (1) the characteristics of lowland rice farmers in Keritang District included an average age of 49 years, indicating a productive age group; an average length of formal education of 8 years (junior high school level); an average farming experience of 19.1 years; and an average household size of 4 persons. The average landholding size was 1.09 ha, with land ownership status predominantly owner-operated. The average farming capital was IDR 9,081,395 per farm per planting season, average production was 3,651 kg per farm, and productivity reached 7,324 kg per hectare. (2) The average production cost amounted to IDR 10,656,691 per farm per planting season, while farmers' revenue in Keritang District reached IDR 25,165,140 per farm per planting season. The resulting profit was IDR 14,508,449 per farm per planting season, with a Revenue Cost Ratio (RCR) of 2.32, indicating that lowland rice farming in Keritang District is economically feasible. (3) The factors affecting lowland rice production showed that, simultaneously, all independent variables had a significant effect on production. Partially, rice seed, Phonska fertilizer, KCl fertilizer, and herbicide had a positive and significant effect on production levels. Meanwhile, labor, Urea fertilizer, and pesticide use did not have a significant effect. These findings indicate that optimizing the use of production inputs, particularly land, fertilizers, and improved seed varieties, is key to increasing lowland rice productivity in the study area.
