Abstract

This study analyzes the sensitivity of drilling parameters to the effectiveness of hole cleaning in the BN Well, K Field, using drilling hydraulics simulation. The parameters analyzed include Rate of Penetration (ROP), flowrate, and rotary speed (top drive), which directly affect the ability of the circulation system to transport cuttings from the wellbore. The analysis was conducted on three drilling sections, namely 17 ½”, 12 ¼”, and 8 ½”. The research method employs Well Plan Simulation Software by comparing actual field conditions with several operational parameter variation scenarios. The evaluation of hole cleaning performance is based on annular velocity, cutting concentration, cutting transport efficiency (CTE), and changes in Equivalent Circulating Density (ECD). The simulation results indicate that excessively high ROP without adequate hydraulic energy support can increase cutting concentration and reduce hole cleaning performance. Conversely, optimal adjustment of flowrate and rotary speed can improve cutting transport efficiency without causing a significant increase in ECD. This study provides recommendations for optimum operational parameters in each drilling section to achieve good hole cleaning conditions while minimizing drilling problems and non-productive time (NPT).
