Abstract

Peat soil exhibits poor technical characteristics, such as high water content and low bearing capacity, necessitating stabilization. This study aims to analyze the effect of delayed mixing time of DIFA Soil Stabilizer (DSS) at concentrations of 1%, 1.5%, and 2% on the Unconfined Compressive Strength (UCS) and modulus of elasticity (E50) of peat soil stabilized with 10% lime. Testing was conducted using the Unconfined Compression Test (UCT) method with curing delay periods of 0, 3, 7, and 14 days. The results indicate that the highest increase in strength occurred in mixtures without delay (0 days). The maximum UCS value was achieved by the 2% DSS variation at 0 days, reaching 253.21 kN/m², which meets the minimum Bina Marga standards. Conversely, delayed mixing caused fluctuations and a significant decrease in UCS and E50 values. At a 14-day delay, all variations experienced a drastic reduction in strength, with the lowest value observed in the 2% DSS mixture at 69.71 kN/m². In conclusion, mixing time is a crucial factor in peat soil stabilization. Immediate mixing (0 days) provides the most optimal results as the pozzolanic and hydration reactions between lime, DSS, and soil particles operate at maximum efficiency. Excessive delays in mixing weaken the interparticle bonds, significantly reducing the bearing capacity and stiffness of the soil.
