Abstract
Clay soil exhibits expansive behavior, meaning that during the dry season it becomes stiff and possesses relatively high bearing capacity. However, during the rainy season, the increase in moisture content causes the soil to become saturated, leading to swelling and a reduction in bearing capacity, which can be hazardous to foundations. This study analyzes the effect of cement type and the addition of Difa Soil Stabilizer (DSS) on the Unconfined Compressive Strength (UCS) of stabilized clay soil. This research was conducted using a quantitative method through a series of laboratory tests. Soil stabilization was performed by mixing the natural clay soil with cement and the DSS additive. The stabilization materials used were Portland Pozzolan Cement (PPC) and Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC) at proportions of 8% and 12% of the dry soil weight, with an additional 2% DSS based on the cement weight. Laboratory testing included the determination of physical properties, Standard Proctor compaction, and UCS tests under soaked and unsoaked conditions with curing periods of 7 and 14 days. The results of the soaked sample tests show that the UCS value of soil mixed with 8% PPC + 2% DSS reached 761.197 kN/m², while the mixture of 12% PPC + 2% DSS increased the UCS to 1,407.69 kN/m². The unsoaked sample tests indicate that the UCS value of soil with 8% PPC + 2% DSS reached 3,819.369 kN/m², whereas the mixture of 12% PPC + 2% DSS increased the UCS to 3,992.7 kN/m². Based on secondary data from (Triyusman, 2024), the UCS value for the mixture of 8% OPC + 2% DSS reached 3,229.73 kN/m², while the mixture of 12% OPC + 2% DSS achieved a UCS of 2,813.69 kN/m². The results of this study indicate that the combination of PPC and DSS provides a more significant improvement in the strength of clay soil compared to the use of OPC. Although the UCS values under soaked conditions decreased compared to unsoaked conditions, the stabilized soil still meets the technical requirements for use as a subgrade, subbase, and even base layer under unsoaked conditions. Furthermore, increasing cement content and extending the curing period contributed positively to the improvement of UCS values.
