Abstract

Violent theft is a form of crime that falls into the category of "violent crime". This crime not only involves the seizure of other people's property, but is also accompanied by the use of violence or threats of violence that can endanger the safety of the victim. From a criminological perspective, violent theft is seen as a complex social phenomenon, influenced by various factors, both from the causal factors, the character of the perpetrator and efforts to prevent the crime. Based on the background above, the author is interested in conducting research on this by directing it to the main problem, namely, (a) what factors cause the occurrence of violent theft in the jurisdiction of the Siak Hulu Police, and (b) what efforts are made by the police in overcoming violent theft in the jurisdiction of the Siak Hulu Police. The research method used is an empirical legal research methodology, with a focus on the framing of the problem and the title of the study, which relies on two data, namely primary data obtained directly from the main parties in the research location by conducting interviews as the main method in data collection, and secondary data obtained through library sources such as laws, books, journals and articles. Both data are complementary, where primary data provides a real picture in the field, while secondary data provides a theoretical basis and legal regulations that serve as a reference in analyzing the research results. The results of the study indicate that economic, environmental, poverty, and narcotics factors often influence the occurrence of violent theft crimes in the Siak Hulu Police jurisdiction. From these factors, the Siak Hulu Police have made efforts to overcome this crime, through pre-emptive efforts, preventive efforts, and repressive efforts. (a) Pre-emptive efforts are the initial steps taken by the Siak Hulu Police to prevent criminal acts. This is done through socialization, reminding and appealing to the public to always be alert and not alone when traveling to quiet areas, (b) Preventive efforts are preventive steps that are emphasized to eliminate opportunities for crime to be committed. This includes conducting patrols and surveillance in areas prone to theft, collaborating with the public to facilitate information, and collaborating with the community through community policing, (c) Repressive efforts are conceptual crime prevention efforts carried out after the crime has occurred. This is done through arresting the perpetrator and the process in accordance with applicable legal procedures, conducting investigations to collect evidence and information, and providing guidance to the perpetrator directly during the investigation. This research is expected to provide contributions and understanding of violent theft, both from the factors causing the crime to efforts to prevent this crime.
