Abstract

This study analyzes netizen opposition in Instagram @kumparancom post comments regarding Constitutional Court Decision Number 90/PUU-XXI/2023 on presidential and vice-presidential age limits using Stuart Hall's Reception Theory. Employing quantitative content analysis of 232 comments collected, the research findings reveal the dominance of oppositional position category at 45.89% (106 comments), negotiated position category at 44.83% (104 comments), and dominant-hegemonic position at only 9.48% (22 comments), indicating significant public dissatisfaction with the MK decision characterized by dominant themes of judicial politicization accusations, procedural injustice criticism, and concerns about political dynasty practices. This research validates the relevance of Stuart Hall's Reception Theory in digital contexts and underscores Instagram's function as a digital public sphere facilitating mass political participation, while demonstrating tendencies toward opinion polarization and high emotionality, thereby emphasizing the importance of digital literacy and critical thinking abilities among Indonesian society in digital political discourse.
