Abstract
The development of red chili farming in Pekanbaru City has not been optimal, requiring cross-sector support and sustainable strategies to maximize existing potentials and opportunities. This study aims to examine: (1) the characteristics of farmers and the profile of red chili farming, (2) farming practices (cultivation techniques, use of production factors, costs, production, profit, and farming efficiency), (3) internal and external factors through a SWOT analysis, and (4) priority development strategies based on the results of the QSPM analysis. The study used a survey method with a population of all red chili farmers in Pekanbaru City consisting of 4 Districts, namely, Binawidya, Kulim, West Rumbai, and East Rumbai totaling 235 farmers, sample determination was carried out using a simple random sampling technique of 30% obtained 71 farmers. The results showed that the average age of farmers was 49 years, 16 years of experience, 10 years of education, 4 family members, and a cultivated land area of 0.37 ha with the majority of borrowed status. Farming capital was dominated by personal funds with an average labor use of 221.71 HOK. Production costs were recorded at IDR 40.661.045/garapan/MT, average production was 2,668 kg/garapan, revenue was IDR 71,457,634, and net income was IDR 30.796.589. The RCR value of 1.64 indicates that the farming business is economically feasible. From a technical perspective, fertilizer use must be controlled efficiently, tool utilization needs to be optimized, while pesticide use still needs to be controlled. A SWOT analysis places red chili farming in quadrant I with a Strengths-Opportunities (SO) strategy, including optimizing experience, utilizing technology, using superior seeds, strengthening market access, and collaborating with agricultural officials. The QSPM analysis confirms the strategic priorities of optimizing farmer experience and utilizing technology to respond to market needs, with a TAS score of 6.373.
