Abstract
Siantan Island, the capital of the Anambas Islands Regency, contains substantial deposits of aggregate rock. However, this potential has not yet been properly and optimally utilized in road construction, particularly as a material for the Class A aggregate base course. The Class A aggregate base course is a layer within the pavement structure that functions to withstand heavy traffic loads. Its constituent material must be of high quality and comply with the specified gradation and material property requirements. This study aims to analyze the particle gradation, physical characteristics, and CBR strength of Siantan Island aggregate as a material for Class A aggregate base course. This research uses an experimental method, consisting of a series of procedures and techniques carried out in a laboratory environment based on the Indonesian 2018 General Specifications for Road and Bridge Construction (Revision 2), focusing on the Class A aggregate base course. The research examines the characteristics of Siantan Island aggregates in relation to particle gradation requirements and physical properties, followed by an analysis to determine their bearing capacity in terms of CBR value. Based on the results of this research, the composition of modified 65% coarse aggregate and 35% fine aggregate meets the particle size gradation requirements for the Class A aggregate base course. Siantan Island aggregates were also determined to satisfy all the physical property requirements for aggregates, with a soaked CBR strength of 124.80%, which exceeds the minimum specification requirement of 90%. Therefore, Siantan Island aggregates are considered feasible for application in road construction, especially as Class A aggregate base course material.
