Abstract

The issue of honorary staff remains a contentious topic without an effective solution from the government. The status of honorary workers is still uncertain, as it is unclear whether they are necessary for workforce allocation or not. Furthermore, there is news regarding the possible abolition of honorary staff. This issue has sparked both support and opposition within society, particularly among those in the education sector. One such group is students in the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP), who are likely to pursue careers in education. This study aims to understand the perceptions of FKIP students at Universitas Islam Riau (UIR) regarding the news of the abolition of honorary staff. The research method used in this study is descriptive quantitative, with data analysis techniques involving research whose analytical results are presented in numerical form, which is then explained and interpreted in a descriptive narrative. The findings of this study show that FKIP UIR students' perceptions are divided into positive, negative, and neutral views. Overall, FKIP UIR students’ perceptions of the abolition policy reflect diverse concerns and hopes. Although some view the policy as a progressive step in labor reform, the majority remain concerned about their career prospects.
