Abstract
The use of social media, especially TikTok, has become an integral part of the lives of adolescents, including students at SMP Negeri 1 Batang Peranap. This phenomenon has given rise to several problems, such as changes in social behavior, discipline, and academic achievement. Some students have reportedly become less focused on studying and more involved in TikTok activities during school hours. The purpose of this study was to determine how TikTok content consumption affects students' academic achievement and to determine how TikTok content consumption affects students' ethics in interacting at school. This study uses the Use and Gratification theory. This study used a qualitative approach. Based on the research results, within the Uses and Gratifications framework, this condition is part of the consequences of media use. Although media provides satisfaction, uncontrolled use can have negative impacts. Thus, TikTok does not directly cause a decline in academic achievement, but through the mechanism of excessive and uncontrolled use. Although school policies have successfully limited cell phone use in the school environment, the negative impacts of TikTok occur outside of school and are carried over into students' learning behavior. TikTok content production, although it has the potential to increase creativity and self-expression, in the context of this study is more driven by the search for social validation and narcissism (according to Social Learning Theory). Thus, TikTok is not just an entertainment platform, but rather a digital ecosystem that fundamentally influences adolescents' cognitive, behavioral, and psychological patterns, ultimately impacting their ability to achieve academically.
