Abstract
The student period is a crucial developmental phase because individuals are in the process of searching for identity, establishing self-worth, and adjusting to social and academic demands. At this stage, individuals tend to be highly sensitive to social judgment, including assessments of physical appearance. Appearance is often used as an indicator of social acceptance, attractiveness, and selfconfidence. Therefore, students are a vulnerable group to issues related to body image. Stated that body image is an individual's experience in the form of perceptions of body shape and weight, as well as behaviors that lead to the individual's evaluation of their physical appearance. The population in this study were all active students at the Islamic University of Riau, who use social media, especially Instagram, with a total of 23,020. The research sample consisted of 230 respondents. The sampling technique used was random sampling. The study was conducted using a body image scale instrument. The results of the data analysis that had been carried out for hypothesis testing with descriptive tests revealed that the body image frequency value indicated low student body image with a frequency value of 168 people. In the second hypothesis, it can be seen from the results of the descriptive test of the mean, median and mode values, the students' body image based on aspects shows that the students' body image tends towards evaluating appearance.
