Abstract

his research was motivated by the increasing number of motor vehicle thefts in the community, especially in Pelalawan Regency. In this study, the author describes the role of victims in motor vehicle theft cases. Victims also play a very important role in the occurrence of motor vehicle theft crimes. This study aims to determine the role of victims in the occurrence of motor vehicle theft crimes in the Pangkalan Kerinci area, Pelalawan Regency. This study uses qualitative methods and routine activity theory. In this study, the researcher interviewed several informants who were victims of motor vehicle theft and the authorities. The results of this study indicate that the victim's negligence is the main cause of motor vehicle theft crimes, victims tend not to be careful in maintaining their vehicles so that it provides opportunities for perpetrators, environmental influences in society are also a cause of motor vehicle theft and lack of security so that crimes easily occur especially for victims of motor vehicle theft.
