Abstract

The environmental problems that frequently occur in Indonesia cannot be resolved solely through rescue efforts and disaster response. Collective awareness is essential for collective environmental preservation. Building a clean environment to address the frequent damage to river basins (DAS) highlights the importance of the role of the community and government in building communication on environmental sustainability, one of which is the Siak River basin. In this study, the researcher formulated the main problem to be discussed: How Does Government Coordination Address Water Pollution in the Siak River, Senapelan District, Pekanbaru City. The research method used in this thesis is descriptive research, which describes the facts encountered in the field as they are, both verbally and in writing. The types and data collection techniques used in this study consisted of primary data collected through interviews and observations, and secondary data collected through documentation. Government coordination to address water pollution in the Siak River in Pekanbaru City has been carried out through various formal and participatory mechanisms. This coordination involves several relevant agencies, such as the Pekanbaru City Environmental Agency as the leading sector, the Public Works and Spatial Planning Agency, sub-district and village governments, law enforcement officials, and the community through neighborhood units (RT) and neighborhood units (RW). The ongoing coordination tends to be reactive. Obstacles to government coordination in addressing water pollution in the Siak River in Pekanbaru City are limited human resources for environmental monitoring activities. Furthermore, low compliance among some business operators and the continued practice of dumping waste into the river are contributing factors.
