Abstract

In Indonesia, traffic growth is driven by increasing demand and economic development, resulting in a busy and dynamic transportation environment. However, despite the expansion of roads and vehicles, traffic discipline remains a significant challenge. Many drivers often make mistakes such as not signaling, not staying in the designated left lane, not yielding properly at intersections, and frequently exceeding the speed limit. These habits contribute to congestion and safety issues, highlighting the need for increased driver awareness and stricter enforcement of traffic regulations. Based on the description above, the author formulates the problem in this research, namely how is the criminal responsibility for traffic negligence that causes the loss of another person's life (in the Pekanbaru City Police case and what factors cause driver negligence that causes traffic accidents that cause the loss of another person's life (in the Pekanbaru City Police case) The research method used by the author is observational research, namely research using a survey system by means of interviews and direct observations in the field. The nature of the research is descriptive, namely describing criminal liability for traffic negligence that causes the loss of another person's life (in the Pekanbaru City Police case) and what factors cause driver negligence that causes traffic accidents that cause the loss of another person's life (in the Pekanbaru City Police case). This study shows that criminal responsibility refers to an individual's responsibility for their unlawful actions. This responsibility often arises from various factors, including drunkenness, fatigue, or ignoring traffic signs. These factors can impair judgment and increase the likelihood of committing violations. These findings emphasize the importance of criminal law in preventing violations and ensuring that individuals are held accountable for their actions. Ultimately, understanding the causes behind criminal behavior helps shape effective legal measures to maintain order and social justice.
