Abstract

This research is motivated by the phenomenon of low emotional maturity in adolescents, especially students in Vocational High Schools, which is characterized by impulsive behavior, lack of self-control and difficulty managing emotions due to family dysfunction such as lack of communication, attention, and parental support. The family has an important role in shaping individual emotional maturity through the function of communication, emotional support, and effective parenting. This study aims to determine the relationship between family functioning and emotional maturity in students of SMKN 1 Pasir Penyu. The research method used is quantitative with a correlational research type. The study population was 1,404 students and the research sample was 312 students taken using accidental random sampling technique. Data collection was carried out using a questionnaire. The data analysis technique used in this study was person product moment with the help of IBM SPSS Ver. 23. The results of the study indicate that there is a positive and significant relationship between family functioning and emotional maturity in students of SMKN 1 Pasir Penyu with a correlation value of r = 0.612 and p = 0.000 (p < 0.05). This means that the higher the family functioning, the higher the emotional maturity in students. This study shows the importance of family functioning in increasing emotional maturity in students.
