Abstract

Slang language particularly among teenager especially Generation Z, has emerged as distinctive form of communication in the digital era, with a specific focus on social media platform such as TikTok. In the context of modern communication, slang has become an important part that reflect the evolving dynamics of culture and society. Therefore, this study aims to explore how this informal language is used and to understand its meanings. This research uses a descriptive qualitative approach, uses saturation data collection techniques, and limits the objects of study to 20 TikTok videos while also capturing screenshots of the comment section on TikTok post related to Western Artist accounts. The findings of the analysis indicate that the slang used by Generation Z in the comments sections of TikTok accounts of Western artist is dominated by Fresh and creative expressions. This demonstrates the high level of innovation among Gen Z in their use of language, creating new words. The primary function of this slang is “to show impression” allowing them to express their feelings and opinions. Which is the way Gen Z connecting with others in environment of online communication. It could be concluded that, Gen Z tend to make new word vocabulary and use them to expressing their feelings.
