Abstract
The Jalan Riau section in Pekanbaru City is the main corridor with high trade and service activity, especially with the presence of Ciputra Seraya Mall. Vehicle activity in and out, parking on the road, and pedestrian movement create side obstacles which have an impact on reducing traffic performance. This research aims to analyze the effect of side obstacles on traffic performance, in terms of average vehicle speed and road service level. This research uses a quantitative method with the help of SPSS software for simple linear regression analysis. Data obtained through field surveys includes traffic volume, vehicle speed, and frequency of side obstacles. Secondary data comes from the Indonesian Road Capacity Manual (MKJI, 1997) and the Pekanbaru City Transportation Service. The analysis was carried out to determine the relationship between side obstacles and vehicle speed and their influence on the level of road service. The research results show that the level of side obstacles on Jalan Riau is classified as moderate to high, especially during the afternoon peak hours. The regression coefficient value of -0.286 shows a negative relationship between side drag and vehicle speed, while R² of 0.502 shows that 50,2% of the variation in vehicle speed is influenced by side drag. A degree of saturation (DS) value of 0.82 indicates a category C road service level, which means traffic flow is still stable but its performance is starting to decline. Thus, the existence of Ciputra Seraya Mall has a significant influence on reducing traffic performance on the Jalan Riau section. It is necessary to regulate entry and exit access, arrange parking, and provide pedestrian facilities to reduce side obstacles and improve the smooth flow of traffic.
