Abstract

Plastic waste is a serious environmental problem that puts significant pressure on the environment, particularly with uncollected plastic waste accumulating in open areas and water bodies. Common plastic waste management methods such as burning, dumping into drains, or disposing in rivers create various negative impacts. This study analyzes a plastic melting device for paving block production by comparing three fuel types: coconut shell, LPG gas, and used oil. The research aims to determine the combustion efficiency and melting results of PP and LDPE plastics at temperatures of 150°C, 200°C, and 250°C. The research method involves plastic melting tests with efficiency calculations using thermodynamic approaches. Results show coconut shell has the highest combustion efficiency (40.94% for PP and 92.22% for LDPE at 250°C) and highest melting efficiency (53.4% for PP and 54.8% for LDPE). LPG gas shows the lowest efficiency, while used oil performs moderately. Temperature increase significantly improves efficiency. Coconut shell is recommended as the optimal fuel for plastic melting in paving block production due to its high efficiency, abundant availability, and being more environmentally friendly compared to other fuels. This research makes an important contribution to plastic waste management through efficient and sustainable recycling technology, while offering practical solutions to reduce environmental pollution caused by plastic waste.
