Abstract
The decline in oil production in Field X, which has sandstone formation, poses a major challenge in efforts to improve oil recovery efficiency. This study aims to analyze the effect of varying concentrations of surfactant AOS and polymer HPAM in the Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) method on the increase of oil recovery factor. The approach used is reservoir simulation with the Inverted 5-Spot model using CMG software, where six injection scenarios with different combinations of surfactant and polymer concentrations are performed. The simulation lasts for 20 years, starting with waterflooding for 5 years, followed by surfactant-polymer injection for 3 years, and the remaining time is used for production. The results of the study show that the injection of the combination of surfactant AOS 0.3 wt% and polymer HPAM 1200 ppm can increase the recovery factor up to 78.96%, which is a significant increase compared to the waterflooding method which only reached 45.5%. The main mechanism of this success is the reduction of interfacial tension (IFT) and the change in the wettability of the rock from oil-wet to water-wet, as well as the increase in the viscosity of the injection fluid which improves sweep efficiency. The main contribution of this research lies in the optimization of surfactant and polymer concentrations that provide a significant improvement in recovery factor, as well as the use of reservoir simulation to predict chemical injection performance in fields that have not previously undergone tertiary recovery. These findings can serve as an important reference in the application of surfactant-polymer injection in similar fields to effectively enhance oil production.
