Abstract

Oil and natural gas remain the primary energy sources in Indonesia, with a government production target of 1 million barrels per day by 2030, but current oil and gas production continues to decline. One effective method for increasing oil recovery is Alkali-Surfactant-Polymer (ASP) injection, which can increase the recovery factor by 15%–30%. The success of ASP flooding is greatly influenced by injection parameters such as polymer adsorption, surfactant adsorption, injection pressure, injection rate, injection time, and salinity. These factors affect fluid viscosity, oil mobility, and interfacial tension. The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of each ASP injection parameter in increasing oil recovery by conducting sensitivity tests using the Python programming algorithm, namely XGradient boosting, so that a more optimal ASP injection design can be obtained. The research began by building a basecase model of 8 ASP injection scenarios with various concentrations, and the results were used to build 500 experiments on 6 ASP parameters, namely polymer adsorption, surfactant adsorption, injection pressure, injection rate, injection time, and salinity from the 8 scenarios. The results of 500 data for each basecase were modeled predictively using the X-Gradient boosting algorithm. This began with exploratory data analysis (EDA) to examine multicollinearity and data split to examine future importance in order to determine the parameters that contributed to or influenced the increase in the recovery factor. From the 8 scenarios, good predictions were obtained with an RMSE value close to zero and an R2 close to 1. From the 8 scenarios, the injection rate and injection pressure parameters were found to be the two most influential parameters in increasing the recovery factor, followed by other parameters, namely surfactant adsorption, polymer adsorption, injection time, and salinity.
