Abstract
Field X, located in the Sumatera Light North area, is characterized by abnormal pore pressure conditions resulting from geological processes such as natural fracturing and uneven rock compaction. These conditions pose significant challenges during drilling operations because they can lead to kick, loss circulation, or even formation failure if not properly managed. Therefore, this study was conducted to design and analyze a directional well under abnormal pressure conditions using drilling simulation software.The data utilized in this study include well coordinate data, pore pressure, fracture gradient, and offset well data as design references. The analysis covers trajectory planning, casing design, and drill string configuration, including Bottom Hole Assembly (BHA) selection, all of which are adapted to formation pressure conditions. The designed well trajectory is of the J-type, with a maximum inclination of 49,32° and a Dogleg Severity (DLS) of 7°/100 ft. The selected casing material, API K-55, is chosen for its ability to withstand burst, collapse, and tension. Simulation results of torque, drag, and buckling analysis indicate that the designed drill string and BHA configurations operate safely within acceptable mechanical limits for each drilling section.The results of this study demonstrate that the proposed well design effectively maintains formation stability and minimizes operational risks associated with abnormal pressure conditions. With the implementation of proper design parameters and the selection of appropriate drilling components, drilling operations in Field X can be conducted safely, efficiently, and economically.
