Abstract

Sand production is a significant operational challenge in the oil and gas industry, including at Field Y, which can impact well performance and production rates. This study analyses and compares the effectiveness of Gravel Pack (GP) and Wire Wrapped Screen (WWS) sand control methods and identifies the design parameters that most influence the performance of both methods. The research is a field study utilising primary data from wells in Field Y. The analysis was conducted through Integrated Production Modelling (IPM) simulation using PROSPER software, which included sand control design, well production performance analysis through the intersection of the Inflow Performance Relationship (IPR) and Vertical Lift Performance (VLP) curves, and sensitivity testing of key parameters. The parameters tested for GP included gravel permeability, gravel length, wellbore radius, and reservoir thickness, while those for WWS included outside permeability, screen outer radius, wellbore radius, and reservoir thickness. The application of both methods has been proven to increase well productivity. Gravel Pack provides more optimal performance than Wire Wrapped Screen. The superior performance of GP is due to its more effective ability to filter variations in sand particle size and maintain flow conductivity around the production zone. Based on sensitivity testing, the wellbore radius and reservoir thickness parameters are the most significant parameters affecting well production rates.
