Abstract

Indonesia is a country located at the confluence of tectonic plates, namely the Eurasian Plate, the Pacific Plate, and the Indo-Australian Plate, which makes Indonesia one of the most earthquake-prone countries. Therefore, in designing structures, close attention must be paid to the moment-resisting frame system that will be used. The selection of the moment-resisting frame system is determined according to the planning location, supported by spectral response acceleration data. This study aims to analyze and produce a comparison of reinforced concrete structural designs, specifically focusing on the reinforcement analysis, planned using the Ordinary Moment Resisting Frame (OMRF) system and the Special Moment Resisting Frame (SMRF) system, respectively. This comparison utilizes the SNI 2847-2019 standard, primarily on main structural elements such as beams, columns, floor slabs, and roof deck slabs. The method used is a literature review utilizing secondary data in the form of design drawings, especially as-built drawings, and other supporting research data. The results indicate that the structure fulfills the design requirements for SMRF, particularly regarding the strong column–weak beam (SCWB) requirement and the beam-column joint provisions. This study concludes that the structural design using SMRF yields a much more ductile structure. However, this is achieved with design consequences in the form of larger dimensions and an increased reinforcement requirement due to the stringent criteria that must be met, compared to using the Ordinary Moment Resisting Frame (OMRF) method.
