Abstract

The development of sharia banking in Indonesia demands increased public literacy, including among students as an educated group who are expected to play a role in strengthening their understanding of Sharia financial products. However, various studies showed that the level of understanding of sharia banking products was still suboptimal. This study aimed to analyze the level of understanding of Sharia banking products among Sharia Banking students in Pekanbaru City. The population of the study consisted of 558 students from three universities, namely the Islamic University of Riau, Muhammadiyah University of Riau, and Sultan Syarif Kasim State Islamic University of Riau. A sample of 85 respondents was determined using a proportionate stratified random sampling technique. This was a quantitative study with a Likert scale questionnaire instrument that included seven indicators of understanding according to Bloom, namely interpretation, exemplifying, classifying, summarizing, concluding, comparing, and explaining. The data were analyzed by using descriptive statistics and continuum scores to assess the level of understanding of the respondents. The results of the study showed that the level of understanding of Sharia banking products among Sharia Banking students in Pekanbaru City was in the very good category, with a final percentage of 89.32%. This result indicated that the students understood the basics of Sharia products, but were not yet fully able to explain, differentiate, and implement Sharia banking product concepts comprehensively. Therefore, literacy strengthening was needed through optimizing the learning process, increasing outreach, and collaborating with Sharia financial institutions to significantly improve student understanding.
