Abstract

The study was motivated by issues with students’ morals in grade XI at SMAN 2 Bengkalis. One of the problems was that some students ignored the teacher in front of them and instead made noise at the back of the class. Furthermore, some students were dishonest in completing assignments. This study aimed to determine: the levels of parenting styles of students’ parents at SMAN 2 Bengkalis; the level of students' morals in grade XI at SMAN 2 Bengkalis; and the influence of parenting styles on students’ morals in grade XI at SMAN 2 Bengkalis. This was a quantitative study with a correlational approach. The population of the study consisted of 269 students, and the sample was 161 students. The data collection techniques of the study were questionnaires and documentation and the data analysis techniques of the study were normality test and hypothesis test. The results of the study showed that: The level of parenting styles of students’ parents in grade XI at SMAN 2 Bengkalis was 0.771 or 77.1% with a good category; the level of students’ morals in grade XI at SMAN 2 Bengkalis was 0.7654 or 76.54% with a good category; and there was an influence of parenting styles on students’ morals with a probability value of 0.002 which was less than the significance value of 0.05. Therefore, the alternative hypothesis stating that there was an influence of parenting styles on students’ morals in grade XI at SMAN 2 Bengkalis was accepted.
