Abstract

This study was motivated by the issue of low learning interest among 11th-grade students in Islamic Education subject at Senior High School 1 Ukui, Pelalawan Regency. Learning interest was an essential factor because it increased students’ motivation, engagement, and success in the learning process. This study aimed to determine: the level of implementation of the discussion method among 11thgrade students at Senior High School 1 Ukui, the level of learning interest in the Islamic Education subject, and the influence of the discussion method on students’ learning interest in that subject. This research employed a quantitative method with a correlational approach. The population consisted of 180 students, and a sample of 124 students was selected using proportionate stratified random sampling. Data were collected through questionnaires and documentation, and analyzed using normality tests, linearity tests, and hypothesis testing. The results showed that students’ understanding of discussion method reached 0.7746 or 77.46%, categorized as good. Students’ understanding of learning interest reached 0.8375 or 83.75%, categorized as very good, and there was a significant influence of discussion method on learning interest of 11th-grade students in Islamic Education subject at Senior High School 1 Ukui, with a probability value of 0.028, which was lower than the significance level of 0.05. Therefore, the hypothesis stating that the discussion method had an influence on students’ learning interest in Islamic Education at Senior High School 1 Ukui, Pelalawan Regency, was accepted.
