Abstract
Discrimination against women in Saudi Arabia, rooted in a patriarchal system and conservative understanding of Sharia, remains a major issue for the UN, despite the UN ratifying the 1979 CEDAW Convention in 2000. This study aims to evaluate the UN's efforts through CEDAW to address discrimination by highlighting the progress of Vision 2030 reforms and the challenges they face. Using a qualitative approach involving document analysis and case studies of reforms in Saudi Arabia, the results indicate that the UN's strategy of monitoring periodic reports and final recommendations has led to some progress. The study's conclusion confirms that the UN's strategy is consistent with and requires collaboration with the reinterpretation of Sharia.
