Abstract

his article analyzes the defense cooperation between the United States and Japan in addressing North Korea within the context of East Asian security. The study discusses the historical and strategic background of the U.S.–Japan alliance, recent joint military exercises, and policy responses to North Korea’s nuclear and missile threats. Using a qualitative method and state-level analysis, the article demonstrates how bilateral strategies and regional partnerships are developed and implemented to enhance deterrence. The findings show that cooperation is strengthened through intelligence sharing, defense technology exchange, and coordinated political stances in international forums. The implications of this partnership are critically examined in the context of East Asian security and the regional balance of power.
