Abstract

This study aims to analyze the model of prisoner guidance in preventing recidivism at the Class IIA Correctional Facility (Lapas) in Pekanbaru. The research focuses on the forms, implementation, and impacts of guidance programs on prisoners, both first-time inmates and recidivists. A qualitative approach was employed, with data collected through interviews, observations, and documentation. The findings indicate that the guidance model at Class IIA Pekanbaru is carried out in an integrated manner through personality development, vocational training, formal and non-formal education, as well as religious activities and counseling. Non-recidivist inmates tend to experience positive impacts, such as increased motivation, moral values, and practical skills that serve as provisions for independent living after release. However, for recidivist inmates, the success of guidance remains hindered by external factors such as limited post-release assistance, difficulties in accessing employment, and social stigma. Thus, it can be concluded that the guidance model at Class IIA Pekanbaru significantly contributes to preventing recidivism, yet its effectiveness largely depends on the continuity of support once inmates reintegrate into society.
