Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of drug abuse prevention counselling on students situasional awareness at SMAN 2 and SMAN 1 Minas, Siak Regency. This research employed a quantitative method with a correlational approach. Data were collected using questionnaires that had been tested for validity and reliability (Cronbach’s Alpha before counselling 0,694 and 0,670; after counselling 0,746 and 0,713). The results showed that before counselling, the relationship between counselling and situasional awareness was in the moderate category at SMAN 2 Minas (r = 0,676; p = 0,000) and weak at SMAN 1 Minas (r = -0,053; p = 0,772. However, after counselling, this relationship significantly increased to a strong and positive level, namely at SMAN 2 Minas (r = 0,752; p = 0,000) and SMAN 1 Minas (r = 0,665; p = 0,000). When this study was conducted, it showed that counseling was effective in increasing students situasional awareness in accordance with the situasional awareness theory proposed by Endesley (1995), which includes the stages of perception, comprehension, and projection. Through counselling, students are not only able to recognize the dangers of drugs but also understand their longterm impacts and project potential risks that may occur.
