Abstract
This study aims to determine the improvement in science learning outcomes thru the application of the handout-assisted discussion method for 23 students in class IVB of SDN 113 Pekanbaru. The initial problem found was the low learning outcomes of students, with the classical mastery rate only reaching 24%, necessitating efforts to improve the learning process. This research uses the Classroom Action Research (CAR) approach, conducted in two cycles. Each cycle consists of four stages: planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The discussion method assisted by handouts was implemented by providing a summary of the material and important points in the form of handouts. Students were then guided to engage in group discussions to deepen their understanding of the concepts. The research results show a significant improvement in student learning outcomes after the intervention was implemented. In the first cycle, an improvement in learning outcomes began to be seen, although it did not yet reach mastery. After improvements were made in the second cycle, the students' classical mastery increased to 70%, thus meeting the criteria for successful action. Thus, it can be concluded that the application of the handout-assisted discussion method is effective in improving the science learning outcomes of 4B grade students at SDN 113 Pekanbaru. This method is capable of helping students understand concepts thru directed discussion activities and concise, easy-to-understand teaching materials.
