Abstract
This study aims to analyze the speaking skills of second-grade students at SDN 83 Pekanbaru and to describe the teacher’s efforts in strengthening these skills during Indonesian language learning. The background of this research is based on field findings showing that several students still struggle with pronunciation, intonation, fluency, and content relevance when speaking. This research employed a qualitative method with a case study approach. The research subjects consisted of five second-grade students and a classroom teacher. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The data analysis process followed the stages of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The results indicate that some students demonstrate adequate speaking abilities; however, several students still face difficulties, particularly in articulation, fluency, and content relevance. The teacher implemented various efforts to strengthen students’ speaking skills, including the use of interactive learning media, role-playing methods, group discussions, vocabulary enrichment, and reward systems to enhance students’ confidence. This research is expected to serve as a reference for developing more effective learning strategies to improve speaking skills among elementary school students.
