Abstract

he thesis assessment process in academic institutions often encounters issues related to efficiency, transparency, and data integration. At the Informatics Engineering Study Program of Universitas Islam Riau, assessments are still conducted manually using paper-based forms, which leads to problems such as document loss, delayed grade recap, and a lack of integration across seminar stages. This study aims to design and implement a web-based thesis assessment system using the Laravel framework to address these challenges. The system was developed using the Waterfall methodology, covering requirement analysis, system design, implementation, testing, and maintenance. It supports three types of users, students, lecturers, and academic staff (laboran), who are given integrated access to submit seminar applications, manage schedules, and perform digital assessments. Testing was carried out using blackbox and functional testing methods to validate system performance against user needs. The results show that the system successfully automates score calculations, reduces reliance on physical documents, and improves speed and accuracy in assessment recap processes. The independent contribution of this research lies in the full integration of seminar submission, scheduling, and assessment within a single web-based platform—an advancement not yet fully realized in prior studies. Consequently, the system significantly enhances administrative efficiency, facilitates access for all users, and reinforces academic accountability.
