Abstract

Rimba Sekampung Subdistrict is a Subdistrict that has been designated as a slum area as determined by the Decree of the Mayor of Dumai. The problems of the slums in Rimba Sekampung Subdistrict through 4 (four) indicators consist of building structures, environmental roads, environmental drainage, and waste management. The purpose of this study is to determine the strategy for handling slums in Rimba Sekampung Subdistrict, Dumai City, so that from this study it is expected to see aspects of the causes of slums and recommendations for handling slum areas in Rimba Sekampung Subdistrict. The approach in this study is deductive. This study is classified as a deductive approach because the researcher examines common problems based on testing a theory consisting of variables, to determine whether the influence between variables in formulating strategies for handling urban slums. The research method used is a mixed method that combines or combines quantitative and qualitative methods. The results of the calculation of the level of slum areas in the Rimba Sekampung Sub-district with a total value of 9, namely the level of slum areas of Light Slums, meaning that slum management is carried out through restoration. The forms of restoration in the slum management program in the Rimba Sekampung Subdistrict according to the pattern of handling slum housing and slum settlements through area rehabilitation include home improvement activities, infrastructure, facilities, and/or public utilities with the aim of restoring their original function.
