Abstract
The making joints that technically require strong materials in welding to obtain good quality joints. This study aims to obtain the results of welded joints on mechanical properties with welded joints on low carbon steel. In this study, the welded material is AISI 1010 with Shield Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) and varying the diameter of the E 6016 welding wire, namely 2.0 mm, 2.6 mm and 3.2 mm. The welding results of welding wire variations to obtain the highest yield strength, tensile strength and impact price on specimen 3 with a variation of welding wire diameter of 3.2 mm, namely 246.19 MPa, 412.40 MPa and 0.645 Joule / mm2. This is due to the influence of the welding current, the tensile strength of the 3.2 mm diameter electrode weld has the highest tensile strength value because the current used is in accordance with the needs of low carbon steel so that the electrode melts into the welded area and produces a denser weld surface resulting in higher high strength. Microstructural observations on specimen 3 show that the ferrite phase and pearlite phase indicate ductile fracture in the 3.2 mm diameter welded joint, because it is dominated by ductile fracture indicating low stress and smaller dislocations, so that the material is able to withstand shock loads from the Impact tester.
