Abstract
This research aims to analyze the effect of flywheel usage on the performance of a reformer Pilates device as an alternative electricity generator. The experimental testing was conducted under two scenarios: with and without a flywheel, using 3, 4, and 5 spring configurations over a 1-minute duration. Observed parameters include input energy, output energy, and system efficiency. The results showed that increasing the number of springs generally raised the energy output in both conditions. However, while the flywheel significantly boosted energy output (e.g., from 121.5 J to 183 J with 5 springs), it also demanded considerably higher input energy. Consequently, energy efficiency in the flywheel system was lower than in the non-flywheel setup. The highest efficiency recorded was 4.89% without flywheel and only 2.86% with flywheel. In conclusion, the flywheel is effective in stabilizing rotation and enhancing output continuity, yet it is not optimal in improving mechanical-to-electrical energy conversion efficiency. This study provides a useful foundation for the development of fitness equipment as a sustainable and eco-friendly alternative energy source.
